Broken bowl mosaic

Thought I'd share my first attempt at mosaic, the very one I mentioned in "Growing Beyond Blame". I'm pretty happy with it, though I learned a lot about what NOT to do next time. I affixed all the bits and pieces to an 18" square tile purchased at Lowes.

i like that "what NOT to do" reminds me of this quote:

"When asked if I had failed I replied, 'I haven't failed, I've just found out 10,000 ways how NOT to make a lightbulb.'" -Thomas Edison ...

i love quotes by him.

which is why to be fearless trying something. So many people who want to homestead want to know how to do somethingortheother. Well, the thing is, get out there and do ANYTHING toward it, and you'll learn what you want to try next time!

Boy ain't THAT the truth!! I think most of what I learned about gardening this year was what not to do. sigh.

I think sometimes people see their goal and it's TOO big, too intimidating. But if we're taking steps towards our dreams (even the smallest steps), that is satisfying in and of itself. It gets us closer to the stuff we think we want....like homesteading, or beekeeping, or building a cob house, or making grand art or.........

baby steps baby steps...remember telling me about that once CG? saying a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. no matter how often i'd heard that before, when you said it to me...it stuck.

oh yeah ren -- we've been gardening forever, and for forever HERE, and we still learn, every year, what not to do next year. And sometimes what to do too! That's always especially nice.

And you know, the whole cycle of creation, destruction, re-creation -- I love that in this piece. And that we ARE all creators of our own existences! I mean, wouldn't you LOVE it if more people GOT that?

ABSOLUTELY!
You know, that was one of the most powerful parts of finding my own inner spirituality that had NOTHING to do with any religion. Really learning that *I* had everything (the power of the universe) right inside of me.

Maybe that's part of what has helped me create the community I always envisioned for myself....because I embraced the REAL me finally!

Once you figure out that you have the power to create your own reality, you can't get so hung up on the details.

Good example is that we're really, really broke right now...hugely because of the choices we made to start over up here. I don't like it, but there's this underlying contentedness that says "everything is going to be alright". Just last night I said to dh " I LOVE my life...have I told you that lately?"

And I do.
We may not have the luxury of stable finances right now, but we CHOSE this. We chose the difficulties that come along with change and we are creating exactly the life we want...right here, right now is perfect.
In the words of Amy Steinberg:
"I am exactly where I need to be"
And I am.

there is real art in living without cash

I can sure agree with that! An art form I'd rather have as a choice than a necessity though.:)
